  • What is homeopathy?
Homeopathy is a system of natural medicine that stimulates the body’s natural ability to heal itself. We get seek because it is an innate weakness of the defense mechanism and it is enabled to face up to the invasion of microbes, viruses or another element that develop the disease. In fact, most often the body heals naturally all the time. However, sometimes the body gets “stuck” and not recovering the way you expect. Homeopathic remedies stimulate the body’s self-regulating mechanisms to initiate the healing process giving power to eliminate the disease and restore to health.
  • What is homeopathy used for?
Homeopathy is widely utilized for maintaining overall health and has demonstrated positive outcomes in managing a broad spectrum of chronic conditions. These include anxiety, chronic fatigue, depression, ADHD, migraines, persistent headaches, hormonal imbalances, allergies, rhinitis, sinusitis, bronchitis, tonsillitis, chronic conjunctivitis, otitis, atopic dermatitis, arthritis, psoriasis, warts, gastritis, colitis, irritable bowel syndrome, premenstrual syndrome, urinary tract infections, cystitis, and bedwetting, among others. Additionally, homeopathy is effective in addressing minor injuries such as cuts, scrapes, muscle strains, and sprains.
  • What to expect after first visit to a homeopath?
After your case is taken, a homoeopath might prescribe immediately or may study your case and supply a remedy at a later date; it depends on the difficulty of the case. The follow-up appointment is our first opportunity to evaluate the effect of the homeopathic prescription. It is important to realise that treatment of chronic diseases is a process that takes time. The follow-ups are crucial in the healing process, and this allows you to tailor the treatment according to your personal needs. Your homoeopath will require regular follow-up visits in order to assess your body's response to the remedy and to decide whether to repeat it, change its potency, or determine if it is time to move on to another remedy. The number of consultations that may be needed is difficult to predict—it depends on a number of factors such as the age of the patient, how long the symptoms have been going on, and your response to your prescription.
  • How does homeopathic remedy work?
This is the burning question, both for advocates of homeopathy and critics of homeopathy alike. It is true that there is no known “mechanism of action” for homeopathic remedies. But if you cannot explain something, it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t exist! We simply do not yet have the technology to answer this question; at the same time, we do have over 200 years of clinical experience with this method, and we know that it works! Research in homoeopathy is a relatively new field, and researchers around the world have begun to investigate the action of homeopathic medicine. Some exciting results have already been published; IIT scientists proved that homeopathic medicines work on the principle of nanotechnology.
  • Are the homeopathic remedies safe to use?
Homeopathy is a safe and gentle system of medicine. Because homeopathic remedies are made from a very small amount of the active ingredient, they are non-toxic. Unlike some conventional drugs, homeopathic medicines are non-addictive and have no dangerous side-effects. When properly administered, homeopathic remedies are safe to use for anyone, including babies, children, pregnant or breastfeeding women, and adults through the senior ages.
  • Are homeopathic medicines FDA approved?
Since 1938, the homeopathic medicines have been regulated in the United States and are considered to be safe. Homeopathic remedies are approved by the Food and Drug Administration, and they also have met the standards of the United States Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia.
  • Is homeopathy a new trend?
Homeopathy, founded by German physician Samuel Hahnemann in the late 18th century, has a rich history spanning over 200 years. Its effectiveness and safety have contributed to its widespread adoption across Europe, North America, and beyond. Mahatma Gandhi, an ardent advocate of homeopathy, once stated, "Homeopathy effectively helps a larger percentage of people than any other science and is beyond doubt the safest and most economical form of healthcare." • If I take more granules, the overall effects will be greater.
My patients often ask me, “Maybe I should take more granules to have a greater effect?” My answer is always no. By no means does the effect of the homeopathic remedy depend on the number of granules taken; a patient can take one or two granules and achieve the same effect as taking 5 or 10 granules—or even the whole tube. The most important things in prescribing a homeopathic remedy are the selection of the proper homeopathic remedy, the dilution according to the case, and the frequency of remedy administration, rather than the number of granules taken.
  • Can homeopathic remedies lose their healing power if touched?
Touching the remedies does not decrease their potency, because in the preparation process, the lactose granules undergo triple impregnation. However, for hygiene reasons, we do not recommend touching them with your hands. The tube cap can serve as an intermediary recipient when administering homeopathic remedies, or it could be done with a plastic spoon.
  • Homeopathic remedies are addictive, and if taken for too long, no longer have any effect.
Homeopathic remedies help the human body boost its self-healing mechanisms, and their administration is not addictive. As for the second part of the myth, the result of addiction often comes from people who self-medicate, following the same prescription they used to receive without consulting a homeopath. It is worth mentioning that during homeopathic treatment, some symptoms might disappear and new ones might occur. Since the prescriptions are made according to all the symptoms, it is much more likely that you will need a different remedy at one point, and following the old prescription without consulting your homeopath will lead to disappointment and create the impression that the body “has already gotten used to the homeopathic remedy and it no longer has any effect”—as my patients often say. Once the taken remedy stops bringing improvements, it is true that the body does not respond to it anymore, and it is a signal that it is better for you to contact the homeopath for a revision of the case. Therefore, a new potency or remedy would probably be necessary.
  • Can allopathic medications be taken simultaneously with homeopathic remedies?
It is a statement that I often hear from my patients, and it is absolutely wrong. In conditions developing for many years and requiring complex treatment such as high blood pressure, allopathic medication is not cancelled but taken at the same time as homeopathic remedies. The patient begins the homeopathic treatment, and after some time, under strict medical supervision, the doses of allopathic medication can be gradually reduced. Since there is a possibility that the allopathic medications weaken the effect of the homeopathic remedy, a lower dilution that is administered daily will be used. If a dental intervention occurs, or, even more so, if anaesthesia is used, it would be good for you to inform the homeopath about that, since there could be a risk that the homeopathic remedy stops working.
  • Are homeopathic remedies based on plants?
This is only partially true for a number of homeopathic remedies. The raw materials of which some remedies are made can be either of plant origin—for instance, the remedies Aconitum, Arnica, and Pulsatilla are all of plant origin—or of animal origin; the most famous ones are Apis mellifica, Lachezis, and Cantharis. Some remedies can also have a mineral origin such as Natrium muriaticum, Calcarea carbonica, and Phosphorus.
  • Homeopathy acts slowly and cannot be used for acute states such as fever, diarrhea, and viral infections.
Anyone who has been using homoeopathic remedies for quite some time has learnt from experience that this affirmation is false. Homeopathy has an arsenal of remedies that can be administered for acute states right from the onset of the illness. Thus, in the first hours of an acute viral respiratory infection, a correctly chosen homeopathic remedy can be effective from the first dose. For instance, Gelsemium can treat an impressive number of viral infections, but only if there is a similarity of symptoms. In case of trauma, regardless of its seriousness—whether you are on the way to the hospital or simply dealing with a sore ankle—the patient should take a dose of Arnica Montana; it should never be absent from a first-aid kit.
  • The claim that there are no studies proving the effectiveness of homeopathy is incorrect.
For over 200 years, homeopathy has consistently shown positive results in practice. Numerous studies have been conducted and continue to be carried out, many of which can be found on the Homeopathy Research Institute website. However, such studies are rarely featured on mainstream medical platforms or funded by pharmaceutical companies. Historical data also supports homeopathy’s effectiveness. For instance, during the 1918 Spanish flu pandemic in Ohio (USA), the mortality rate was 30% among 24,000 patients treated allopathically, while it was only 1.05% among 26,000 patients treated homeopathically.
